Small Realism Tutorial Pt. 1
Picture information
Description:
Okay I've been having some people ask me on tips to help them draw realism. Although this is by no means an all encompassing tutorial cause it would be too confusing trying to explain every little detail about drawing realism and shading. Instead it’s meant as a foundation to hopefully build from, because everyone needs to find out what works for them.
First you want to get the basic shape and pose of the person you're going to be drawing. To do this you'd want to segment the body into its basic shape. Some people prefer to use wire frame figures first, but I prefer to use bubbles and blocks. Either way you decide to do it you want to lightly sketch the basic shape of the body part (upper arm, lower arm, waist, neck, head, etc.). On the head you want to place the lines for the center of the head the placement of the eyes, lips, and I personally like to also put a line for the bottom of the nose. Another thing that I prefer to do is also lightly sketch the outline of the hair.
Next you want to lightly draw out the details of the person, and begin to draw the clothes and any other details.
Once it’s all done and the picture is the way you want it you put a slightly darker line for the outline to give you a reference for the next step which is shading.
A few things to remember when doing realism you don't want straight lines and sharp angles. Also on the human body all of your detail work comes in the shading or coloring part of the process. Remember this is only the way how I do realism so experiment on your own and find the way that best works for you cause someone else's way might not work best for you.
