Start of the Summer Moonlight Festival

'Stupid humans.' Sesshoumaru was in a tree, glaring down at the people in the village. They were celebrating a special 3 night tradition. The Summer Moonlight Festival. It was a full moon in the deep night. The scent of summer heavily laced in the air along with frying fish and a lot of joy.

'Human joy.' Sesshoumaru thought, disgusted.

The festival celebrated the first night of the full moon in summer. Sesshoumaru hated this event, he had a good reason too. Sesshoumaru then turned to glare at his brother, now in human form, who was staring at him.

"What?" Sesshoumaru snapped. InuYash scowled,

"I wasn't looking at you. But I must say," InuYasha grinned like a child. "That's a pretty big damage to the arm isn't it?"Sesshoumaru coldly glared at his younger and idiotic half-brother. He was trying to rub the injury in Sesshoumaru's face...the nerve. His arm was bandaged, courtesy of that miko girl.

He and InuYasha were in another fight and InuYasha actually managed to get a slash on his arm. Surprise there. It was actually pretty hard to recover and stand, he felt dizzy at that time. Rin, begged Kagome to help him.

Unwillingly, Sesshoumaru received assistance in his healing from the miko.

"Lord Sesshoumaru!" Rin, the bubbly child came running and calling his name. Sesshoumaru gracefully stepped down from his spot in the tree. Rin held up a pretty flower crown. Seemed to be made with roses and daisies.

"Lord Sesshoumaru isn't it so pretty? Mother made it for me!" InuYasha raised an eyebrow as did Sesshoumaru.

"Mother?" Sesshoumaru, a little questioned said.

Kagome came in at this time. She was wearing her now usual miko outfit. She stopped wearing that tramp-ish skirt a few years ago and now wore a white haori with blue hakamas. She grew so wonderfully over the years it was so surprising that she didn't get married, or mated, yet. Sessoumaru mentally scolded himself for looking at a lowly human. Rin tackled her with a nice hug.

"Mom! Look look! I showed Lord Sesshoumaru the beautiful crown you made me!" Kagome looked at Sesshoumaru, a little nervousness playing on her face. Shippo was on her shoulder, a little defensive more than lately. He wasn't used to the dangerous taiyoukai's presence.

"Shippo, why don't you and Rin join Sango, Miroku, and the others villagers with the firecracker game?"The children nodded and giggled and laughed as they disappeared. Kagome laughed nervously.

"I guess I have a few explains to do?"

"Yes, you do human." Kagome frownedand scowled.

"God what is it with you demons! You never call by my name it isn't so hard to remember, no less to say! Kagome!" InuYasha mentally bursted with laughter as seeing his brother yelled by his miko companion.Sesshoumaru was unfazed. Kagome straightened up her haori.

"Well, anyways. Rin asked if I could be her mother and I said yes," As she remembered. "You really can't ignore that cute innocence in her. I know you can't Sesshoumaru..." Kagome sort of smirked. Sesshoumaru pinned Kagome against the tree.

"Girl, are you calling me weak?" Kagome just stared back, a little scared. Even InuYasha couldn't fight right now but she knew Rin would be upset if she was dead. InuYasha immediately stood.

"Sesshoumaru, let her go!" The old brother ignored the more infant one. Kagome placed her hand on his own.

"I'm just saying, it means your capable of emotions Sesshoumaru." Sesshoumaru spat, disgusted.

"Emotions are weak miko, that will be your downfall. And do not think that you can know me so easy and well." Then he let her go and started to walk to a part of the woods..

"Jerk." Kagome muttered, InuYasha heard.InuYasha walked over to Kagome's side.

"You know you were really brave standing up to him like that." Kagome smiled.

"That guy acts hard but he's a marshmallow if you play your cards right." InuYasha then looked thoughtful.

"InuYasha what is it?" InuYasha looked at her, serious.

"Kagome, what's a....marshmallow?" Kagome smacked her forehead.

"Remember those white mushy things we roasted in the fire before and ate?" InuYasha's mouth formed an 'O' of rememberance. Kagome laughed.

"Come on Kagome let's go back."Kagome nodded.

"You go ahead, I'll catch up alrigh?" InuYasha nodded and walked towards the village. Kagome had a lot of thinking to do. She sat down on a rock placed nearby the stream. She looked up at the clear full moon.

"Beautiful night...eh Sesshoumaru?" Sesshoumaru stepped from behind the tree. He didn't know why but he was watching the despising miko to see what she would do. He was surprised that she could sense him.

"Wanna sit by me? I don't bite." She gave him a grinning smile. She reminded him of Rin of how she acted. Always kind and playful. Sesshoumaru took a seat by the miko.

"I see your powers have grown, you're not the useless conniving wench you were a long time ago still." Kagome had no idea whether to take that as a compliment or an insult. She stuck her tongue out at the taiyoukai fearlessly. Sesshoumaru had to admit, this girl was either very brave or very stupid to be how she was around him.

"Is the great Lord Sesshoumaru in deep thought?" Kagome said.

"Hey you still awake or can demons sleep with their eyes open?"

"Alright alright I'll stop annoying you."

"I would think that's impossible." Kagome got a little peeved. If Sesshoumaru expressed his emotions he would've been grinning at pissing the miko off.

"Anyways I'd like to ask a question, will you answer?"

"That merely depends on the question." Kagome gathered some courage.

"Alright, why do you think emotions are..are useless and not required?" Sesshoumaru stayed silent before answering,

"That is not your business, and being human you would not understand." Kagome's face got pink in anger.

"What you think humans are not your equal!" She shouted. Sesshoumaru simply nodded Aggravated, Kagome stomped off back to the village.

' That human miko is so odd..how can her emotions change so quickly?' Sesshoumaru was intrigued and as he was Sesshoumaru the taiyoukai, for him getting intrigued would always lead to challenges. He then mentally sighed. The first night of the celebrations.

Sesshoumaru looked at the sky, stars twinkling merrily. He couldn't wait for this 3- Night festival to end..how he hated it. He was deep in thought what happened one night in the middle of the Moonlight Festival to him when he was a young pup. His thoughts were disturbed when he heard a familiar scream, it was that girl.

' The idiot, she must've gotten attacked on her way to the village." Sesshoumaru ran to where he heard the scream.

Kagome

Kagome was just walking back to the village cursing on and on about Sesshoumaru being a heartless jerk until she was attacked by a demon. It was an ogre demon, very unfriendly looking and even uglier then unfriendly. He grabbed her by the back of her robe.

"Miko! The piece of jewel! I heard you have a great chunk of it!" The bad breath almost knocked Kagome out.

"God what is with you demons? It is always miko, woman, girl, and all that other crap! Why can't you ever call me," She pointed to herself. "Just damn Kagome?" She practically shouted. The ogre demon was displeased. Kagome covered her mouth knowing she now probably wasted 5 minutes of living.

"Umm...want some floss?" The ogre threw her at a tree at an attempt to knock her out. Kagome screamed.

Thud.

She looked up. Kagome was surprised to not be collided with a big tree or rock but never expected Sesshoumaru. He was holding her in his un damaged arm and disapproved.

"Girl are you out of your mind, wandering and letting your guard down for a demon to almost kill you!" He hissed. Kagome cowered back a little. The ogre was ticked off at being ignored.

"So you are with the miko...I shall just kill you both!" Then he ran at Sesshoumaru with a club. Immediately the demon was killed as Sesshoumaru flicked his wrist with ease and the venomous whip destroyed the ogre.

"Stupid fool. A lower class demon." He then noticed who or what he was holding in his arms.

A human. He instantly dropped her, and upset at his actions.

"Ow! Sesshoumaru you could be more gentle!" He ignored her cries and walked to the village.

"Come miko obviously you're not responsible enough for your own life so I'll have to escort you." Kagome huffed but followed him, keeping at least a foot between them both. When they arrived at the village, they arrived in time for the fireworks. InuYasha came up to them, munching on a fish.

"Hey Kagome where have you been?" Then he glared at Sesshoumaru who returned the favor. Then Sesshoumaru walked over to Rin, watching her as a guardian. Sango and Miroku were displeased at being with Sesshoumaru but trusted Kagome's judgement.

Kagome watched Sesshoumaru as the fireworks lighted the night for miles. He met her gaze and she swore she saw sadness and fury for a second but they blinked back to his cold emotionless eyes, a deep gold, like InuYasha's yet so different.

'What could make you like that Sessoumaru?'
